Budae jjigae, often known as "army stew," is one of the foods that foreigners invariably enjoy when they try it. There are many variations of budae jjigae in Korea, but I'd like to introduce the most basic version of this dish. Enjoy!
Budae-Jjigae
T = Tablespoon
t = teaspoon
Ingredients (for 2-3 servings)
Spam 150g
Sausage 200g
Kimchi 100g (1/2cup)
Tofu 200g (optional)
Onion 1
Green onion 1
Cheddar cheese 1 slice
Seasoning sauce
Shin Ramyun (or any other ramen)
Seasoning Sauce (for 2-3 servings)
Gochujang 2T
Gochugaru 2T (or substitute 1 extra tablespoon of gochujang)
Minced garlic 2T
Soy sauce 2T
Black pepper
How to make
Thinly slice the spam and sausages.
Cut the tofu into pieces about one-third the size of a phone.
Thinly slice the onion and green onion.
Put the spam, sausages, kimchi, tofu, onion, and green onion in a pot, and add 2/3 of the seasoning sauce.
Add 1L of water and a slice of cheddar cheese, then bring to a boil.
Once boiling, add one packet of Shin Ramyun and half of the ramyeon powder, and cook until the noodles are done.
Taste the broth and add more seasoning sauce if it’s too bland.
Tip
It’s even better when served with rice.
